FTC fines head lice company for misleading claims

The Federal Trade Commission has fined the manufacturer of Lice Shield $0.5M for misleading advertising claims.

In a settlement announced on 28 May 2014 (text here), Lornamead, Inc, the manufacturer of Lice Shield products will pay the FTC $0.5M and agrees to restrictions on further advertising.

The settlement requires that the company not make any claims to effectiveness in treating, preventing or quantifiably reducing the risk of head lice infection in the absence of "at least one adequate and well- controlled human clinical study".
