Created on 15.06.13

New study results have been recently published of a randomly controlled trial comparing 1% sodium chloride spray with 1% permethrin creme.

The study by Serrano et al., published in April 2013 in Pharmacology & Pharmacy, found that the sodium chloride spray was superior to permethrin.

This study tested a two applications of each treatment, at Day 1 and Day 8, with a final outcome assessed at Day 15. The second treatment was only applied to individuals with observed head lice infection after the first treatment. There were 42 individuals involved in the study.

Success rates were 85% for sodium chloride spray and 45% for permethrin after 15 days. These results were significant at p < 0.05. No serious adverse effects were observed.
